The Importance of Multiple Usage Examples in the GRE
Many words have more than one meaning. The context in which a word is used can have a huge impact on its interpretation and the effect it has during communication.
This is particularly essential to understand for the GRE exam, where you may be caught out by a word that is used in a way with which you are not familiar. For instance, the simple word FRY has two completely different meanings - "to cook in oil", or "baby fish"!
It is VERY important that you familiarize yourself with as many usage examples as possible for each of the important GRE words in your video lessons. Why not go back and review the video lessons this week, and pick out any that have multiple meanings that you are still not confident with, and revise them?
For this lesson it is a good idea to work through your current custom word list and find as many DIFFERENT meanings for the words as possible. If you are using “Ultimate Vocabulary”, this makes it very easy for you to find multiple usage examples. Otherwise, you can use the internet to search for examples.
This week, keep an open and curious mind and listen out for words being used in different ways. You may be amazed at what you learn!
