GRE Time Management

It's a myth that you should spend the same time on every question in your GRE exam. Other than the essays, the first 5 or 6 questions in each section are the most important. You should aim to spend about a third of the time allocated for the section to the first 5 questions in that section.

If you learn to pace yourself sensibly, you are likely to find that you have a little time left when you have finished each section. As the rules say that you can't start the next section early, lots of people use this time to worry about what will be in the next part!

A better use of time might be:

  1. Go back over your paper, double-checking any questions you were unsure of
  2. Check if any of your answers need to change because you mis-read a question!
  3. If you feel stressed, close your eyes and visualize yourself calm and collected, taking a few deep breaths
