GRE Time Management Tips
- Train yourself to work to a timer. Use a non-beeping watch
(examiners tend to confiscate noisy watches!) during all
your practice tests. That way it won't be a stressor during
the real exam.
- Don't waste time reading instructions - get to know them
in advance, they are easily available. On the day, just
scan the instructions to make sure they are as expected.
- Don't rush. As you learn to work to a timer during your
practice tests, you will develop a good feel for how much
time to spend on each question. During the real exam, your
adrenalin will make you want to go faster. Slow yourself
down a little to concentrate properly and stay calm.
- Remember that each question in a section is worth the
same number of points. So know that it is OK to skip a
question that is really difficult for you (or guess the
answer, if it is a multiple choice). Make sure that you get
the questions you CAN do RIGHT, by spending the time you
need on them, rather than rushing to answer ALL the
questions but getting many of them wrong.
